Songs You Should Never Cover, Volume I
Whole Lotta Love - Led Zeppelin
Immigrant Song - Led Zeppelin
Magical Mystery Tour - The Beatles
I Ran So Far Away - Flock of Seagulls
When the Bullet Hits the Bone - Golden Earring
Livin' La Vida Loca - Ricky Martin
That's just a sampling, folks. Some of those songs shouldn't be covered because they are sacred and because it's impossible to do them justice (the only exception being Led Zepagain, and only if I'm feeling generous). Some of those songs should just never be played.
The band tonight was ridiculous. It was like a bunch of manic Rocky Horror fans got together and put together the most ill-advised set list they could think of. They liked to talk between songs. When Keith Richards talks between songs, it's comical and endearing. When Chris Robinson talks between songs, it's like you're watching that one scene from Almost Famous. When these guys talked between songs, it was obnoxious. They liked to chastise the audience for not dancing enough. From there, they decided it was because the audience wasn't drinking enough. If an audience needs to be drunk to like your music, well, sorry, but you suck.
On the plus side, the guys opening for them were awesome. I bought their CD. Just a guitarist and a drummer, and they played unapologetically rocking tunes. They didn't for a second dabble in the pseudo-poetic or in the Zach Braff quiet pretty crap. They just rocked. Thanks, gents.
