Feliz Navidad

Merry Christmas, everyone. I hope everyone gets a chance to enjoy it -- it can be an awfully busy time of year, and it would be easy to mix out on your Lego fix. Or whatever.

I'm a big fan of Christmas. It'll be different this year, now that Granddad isn't physically with us, but it'll still be a good time. I'll be headed out to Eastern Arizona to relax, eat Mexican food and whatever else Granny cooks, see my cousins, and all of that.

So this article caught my eye. A significant chunk of Arizona's workforce is packing up and heading south. Good for them, to be honest. Nobody should have to put up with Russell Pearce's racist baloney. He describes Arizona's new immigration laws as "attrition by enforcement." The definition sounds innocent enough: "a reduction or decrease in numbers, size, or strength." Attrition is best known, however, for its World War I connotation, in which it was used to describe the dominant strategy in Western Europe. It basically consisted of taking turns throwing hundreds of thousands of soldiers at fortified machine gun and artillery lines, hoping that the other guy would lose more men. Classy, Russ.

I guess I shouldn't just blame Pearce, though -- he's got a whole slew of acolytes, and thousands more that are willing to vote for his absurd measures.

I'm not sure. I wasn't planning on heading back up to Flagstaff until a few days later, but I may have to make a special trip.
