Church is Out
It's a Charlie Musselwhite song, and a good one, at that.
I've gotta formalize about two weeks' worth of lessons for tomorrow, write three for today, and draw up lesson plans for a week in advance. Today's gonna hurt, especially since I only got about five hours of sleep.
All the same, I'm ready to give a shout, because Church is out.

Dare I ask...how was convention?
Ha ha, it was kinda lame, as you might expect.
Playing music for it was actually kind of fun, and going to Dave Hahn's workshop on the emergent church was funny, because there were a bunch of clueless people who kept asking what exactly it is and how to "sell" it. Hearing Dave manage those questions was really interesting -- he didn't explain right up front that you couldn't answer that question. I would guess he wanted to make sure that it flat-out isn't defined in those terms at all.
There was a protracted argument over whether we should encourage churches to give seven-tenths of one percent to the Millennium Development Goals immediately or in five years.
There were some creepy priests that hit on people, some people wandering around that we know to be total jerks for whatever reason, a whole bunch of sycophants, and the well-meaning but out of touch crowd. And, of course, the people that we don't know anything about. And Fr. Richard, Jan, and Ann Johnson, all of whom we like.
All in all, it was a busy weekend, but it went better than it could have. No blatant, intentional racism and no gay-bashing or anything.
sounds like a successful convention. what else can you expect when you put a bunch of priests and religious types in a room for day.
i'm glad you got to play music (no shine jesus shine, i hope) and tell aaron that i love him rocking the clarinet (from the picture on tamie's blog).
hope you are doing well!
